is my lenovo T530 ready ?

  • Hi everyone.

I want put a Mac Os on my T530 lenovo. Bothered facing windows problems all the times...

I ask myself many questions, fisrt of all, I want change the screen, but is any kind of UHD screen will works ?

I understood the induild wifi card doesn't work, what is the usb wifi card i have to buy ?

    My proc is : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3230M CPU @ 2.60GHz 2.60 GHz, does it work properly.

If I could have answer to this, i should start to try my installation. :D

    thank's

  • Do you want to change your internal Screen to UHD (4K)? I don't think, this will work, because Intel HD4000 doesn't even Support 1440P.. FullHD (1920x1080) should work.

    Lenovo Thinkpad T530

  • And a 4K Screen with 15" ? You must have very good eyes. ;)

There is no UHD Screen for this Model available. FullHD is the maximum.

hu. Maybe you rigth. I was fooled by the Mac capacity.😂

    I mean full HD yes.

So, if I use a full HD display, it will work with any brand or model I use?

  • Nope...

you have to find a FHD display which has the necessary connectors for your T530, since there are differences between laptop models and vendors.

OK, so once the FHD screen works on my computer, it will be accepted by the Mac OS. 🤓

MacOS doesn't care about your screen as the functionality will be decided by the graphics card/chip.

As long as you get a picture on the new screen at all, it shouldn't be a problem.

Test it with Linux or Windows, before you install macOS.

  • For the internal WIFI from Intel you should check the itlwm kext.

If it's listed in the compatibility list, I should work with the kext.

A couple of things like AirDrop and Handoff will not work, but Wifi itself should be good.

For other wifi chips check the list in the following link -> https://osxlatitude.com/forums…ab=comments#comment-86614

I would personally try to get one of those:

  • You can look for a screen replacement here (Haven't tested them yet): https://www.laptopscreen.com/E…THINKPAD%20T530%20SERIES/

itlwm is not working with mPCIe based cards. EDIT: Seems to be wrong. They added a lot of stuff in the last time.

And the T530 has a Whitelist.

    mac new 2

If you want to use internal wifi you have to rebrand an Atheros AR9280/AR9285 based Wificard. But these 2 Chips are working only up to 10.15. For all other cards which are mac compatible you must make a BIOS-Mod to remove the Wifi whitelist. Alternatively you can achieve this with https://github.com/n4ru/1vyrain

Than you can plugin in every card you want.

  • Uh-Oh...

I totally forgot the Whitelist-Issue on this box... thanks for the reminder.

My wifi card is a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200, it seems to be listed in the device list, but as "experimental" so i don't know what it means exactly.

I probably will buy a mac compatible card after i flashed my BIOS then.

    pebbly

i bougth a new screen; normaly, it will works :)

another question, i saw my mini display port will do not work, so it's time to get a docking station. Is the docking station needs particular drivers, or is it transparent ?

  • Experimental means: Simply try it before you buy another card. ;)

You have an i5. Minidisplay Port should work because it uses the HD4000 for output. Exception is only the i7 Model which has a dedicated Graphicscard and the Port is hardwired to it.

I bougth an i7 to swapp my i5 this morning. 😅

It means i can't use the display port in the docking station too. But it don't be necessary if the DVI connection works fine to connect my secondary screen.

  • Upgrading an i5 to an i7 is no Problem. mDP remains working.

    EDIT:

Get the EFI from this guy. He upgraded from i5 to i7 too and has a working mDP.

    Added to my favorite!

his wifi card don't work but is not listed in the compatibles cards list, so normaly it don't will be a problem for me.

And also, he have a docking station and don't notice any problems with it, so i think i could try to find one too. to much wires on the computer side, it's time to fix this too :D

i will wait to get all the part i bougth to improve my laptop before i start my installation and stay here to get some informations.

    to be continued ... :D

  • His Repo is a little bit outdated at the Intel Wlan Part. I already wrote him one hour ago to update this section because there is progress in itlwm development for this old cards.
